It was a different era. The show was reasonably popular, but something of a cult show. Before the proliferation of the internet, I think the attitude to doing that was different. Hell, take the example of the super-hero episode of South Park which existed pre-social-media that can't really be shown on TV anymore. Now that YouTube exists for people to upload clips and social networks exist for people to post their opinions en masse, things are different.
