Go 8 Bit with Dara Ó Briain (Dave)

I can't find the old thread and I'm bored of searching.

Series 3 of Go 8 Bit starts on Monday 12th February.

"Grab your controllers! Gaming doesn't get tougher than this. Gregg Wallace and Jodie Kidd pitch up on the consoles-meets-comedy show to play Spy Hunter, Battlefield 1 - and Dara's Buttery Spuds."

"Gaming as an activity has never been more popular, but that of course just makes it a larger target for certain parts of the mainstream media. And while we shouldn't feel too under fire, look at the bats that get swung at footballers or the current open-season on Hollywood's ethics, it's always good to see a more positive outlook on gaming from the mainstream media.

In this case, it's the return of Dara O Briain's Go 8 Bit on Dave, now in its third season, that has shone a soft light upon the industry. Dave commissioned OnePoll to do a survey of 1,000 gamers aged 18-30 and the results are most pleasing.

60 per cent of respondents felt gaming is a key component of their social life. The average person playing games has made up to three friends through gaming. And over a third claim that playing a game online with other people has helped to increase their confidence levels.

They also found out that 42% per cent of those surveyed feel at their happiest when performing well in a video game. Which is a possibly a little concerning, but then the under 30s largely don't have children - so we'll let them off.

It's might be telling that three in five respondents believed gaming is misrepresented, though bird watchers, morris dancers and (metal) detectorists would probably also all claim that people didn't understand their hobbies either.

That three in ten gamers believe playing video games has helped them to process or deal with a mental health issue or concern is both cheering, in that gaming has helped, and concerning, that so many feel such concerns to begin with. And that ties in with fifty-five per cent playing video games predominantly to help them unwind and relieve stress after a tough time. With 1 in 2 admitting they value gaming as a method of escapism to process the worries of daily life.

Luke Hales, Dave General Manager, said: “We’ve loved watching stars come together and unleash their competitive sides across the three series of Dara O Briain’s Go 8 Bit to date. But this survey is incredibly revealing in showing the positive mental benefits of getting together for a gaming session.”

Go 8 Bit returns to screens Monday 12th February at 10pm on Dave."

The show is fun to watch and it's primarily about entertainment, than the games, but I do get frustrated when the celebrities choose either something they've only played on their mobile or told what to play.

Dara asked Liza Tarbuck what her game choice was:
"Ooh, erm Bomb Jack[l]s[/I]. Did I say that right?"

Totally shattered any illusion/delusion that the guests actually play anything.

However, you can't question that this is the best show on television about videogames!

As was said in the old thread this lives or dies by the quality of the guest.

I can't stand Gregg Wallace but, fair play, he's a gamer so it felt genuine.

I could never get in to this show at all. I did watch a few episodes but it just seemed to "Ladish" to me.

In the UK maybe. The best VG tv show however is still game centre CX hands down.

I'm amazed how this gets another series when the show is rubbish and Ellie Gibson is pain. Much rather have seen Video Game Nation get another series rather than this crap

Even stranger, they filmed this back in May but only showing it now... it was done literally a month or so after the filming for series 2.
Lie with passion and be forever damned...

I preferred the spin off Go 8 Bit DLC, hopefully that's back too.

Can't say I'm surprised. Tried to enjoy this show but ultimately thought it was crap. I doubt most if the guest on it knew anything besides the major sellers, if that.

Go 8-Bit DLC as mention above was much better and had people on it that actually play games. So back to YouTube and Twitch for gaming content given broadcast TV doesn't provide the type of programmes I want to watch.

Steve from Go 8-Bit is a regular Twitch streamer, with a channel called SteveFromGo8Bit

I like the show, but I have a TiVo with a whole series on, because I kinda got bored of the format.
                            Seen one, seen 'em all.
Very easy to watch, but not much meat to it.

I'm trying to be polite in case Dara's reading this.

I still think there's space on the gajillion channels we now have to show something that talks about old and new games and share the joy they bring.

Thing is, Dara likes his games but the show fell into the same trap as Mock The Week with it's heavily scripted, really obvious puns and one liners.

I'd like an intelligent show about gaming with some humour. Not a funny show with games shoehorned in.
