    National Treasure 3

Nearly a decade on from the sequel’s release, talk of a third film in Disney’s “National Treasure” franchise seemingly died off a few years ago and it looked as though that franchise was over. Turns out though it’s not quite dead just yet. At the studio’s annual shareholders meeting, Disney CEO Bob Iger was asked […]

It's been nearly ten years since the last film so I'd assumed this was dead, buried within Disney under a sea of Disney, Marvel and Star Wars merchandising money. However, the long talked of third entry into the pretty successful Nicholas Cage franchise seems to be faring better than Tron 3.

CEO of Disney Bob Iger has confirmed that an official green light hasn't come yet but development is still continuing on the film.

He's also said this is going to be a reboot of the franchise, and act as a setup for a new National Treasure Cinematic Universe, or NTCU. The part traditionally played by Nicholas Cage in the new movies will be taken up by Clive Owen, though Nick Cage is going to show up in cameos which will confuse the message over whether this is a sequel or an actual reboot, and the cast seem to be being deliberately obtuse about it in interviews.

When asked if this was a daft idea, the response was "well Prometheus and Transformers made a ****load of money, so we thought maybe this was the direction to go in".

Critics, however, have pointed out that the two existing movies have pretty much covered all of America's short history, so it seems a reboot was their only option.

All in jest, of course - but it seems too close to truth for some movies on the way.

The “National Treasure” franchise, dormant since the second film in 2007, appears to be coming back in a big way. The historical theatrical adventure action mystery films starred Nicolas Cage as Benjamin Gates, a treasure hunter who uncovers hidden troves and secrets from U.S. history. Jon Voight, Diane Kruger and Justin Bartha co-starred in both. […]

Confirmation that the third film will have the same cast and that a Disney+ series is also in the works using a younger cast making first guesses prequel or kids version

I really enjoyed these back when, would be down for a sequel provided it has some effort put into it.
