The second and third books were really problematic and nowhere near as good as the first. But I enjoyed the world and concepts and can see how it could make a good TV show or movie. As pointed out already, the big factor will be budget versus payoff. It looks expensive.

I started watching Godless last night.
It's a Western series starring Jeff Daniels as a vile bandit bordering on insanity that terrorises townships looking for an ex-member of his gang whom he regarded as his son.
It's a tough opening five minutes, that's for sure, but get beyond that and the drama starts to expand and there's some fascinating characters trying to get by in the world they're living in.
I'm really enjoying it and there's only about 6 episodes, so it's totally possible I'll finish a whole series!
However, I am constantly expecting the cowboys to find out that they're actually robots in a futuristic theme park.

Anyone watched "The Sinner"? Jessica Biel, so I gave it a shot because I love her look and voice. First ep was OK, although the general bleakness rolling into ep 2 was a bit too much for me. I'm just not intrigued enough to find out why she did it. The detective seems like a douche too.
Wondering if I should bother any further. ???

Made the mistake of opening Minecraft and lost the majority of last night's viewing time doing "stuff".
Thought I'd wind down with an episode of Big Mouth, but ended up watching two.
Now I'm sad as I've only got one episode left!
I've really enjoyed the show and found myself laughing at quite a few moments.
Mainly, I like the characters. These cartoons tend to make their characters a bit unlikable in their quest to be edgy, but they all have their own insecurities and strengths here. It's not Shakespeare, but at least there's a bit of depth to the laughs.
I watched an episode of Rick & Morty too. The one where they're on a simulation run by aliens trying to get his formula for dark matter. It's probably been my favourite one yet.

I finished Godless last night. Hot damn, that was some good telly!
The whole series was gearing up to a showdown, so when it finally came it was nerve-wracking.
I honestly cheered, gasped and sat bolt-upright on the edge of my seat in that section.
Fantastic ending too.
Spoilers, in this link, but an interesting read after watching the finale.
How 'Godless' pulled off that epic finale shootout:

It wasn't what I thought it would be, it was a great chase drama like The Purge 2 or The Warriors.
It's interesting that this was slated by critics but enjoyed by most people who watched it and The Last Jedi was lauded by reviewers, but disliked by a lot of fans.
It wasn’t just “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” last month but also David Ayer’s big-budget Netflix original feature “Bright” which showed a major difference of opinion between film critics and regular audiences in certain online polls. Both films saw noticeably large gaps between their Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer and Audience scores. With “Bright,” critical reviews were […]
I was in two minds about watching this as I'd heard the writer, Max Landis, had been accused of sexual assualt:
"Actress Anna Akana, who worked with Landis on his YouTube short film Wrestling Isn’t Wrestling, responded to one of Netflix’s tweets promoting Bright by writing, “Written by a psychopath who sexually abused and assaults women, right? Cool”. Zoë Quinn, the video game developer who was at the center of the online harassment campaign known as GamerGate, tweeted her own thread on Landis, saying his predatory behavior has been an “open secret for so long,” but survivors are “freaked out” by the influence of him and his father, director John Landis. Writer Lindsey Romain also tweeted saying “Lax Mandis” – an obvious codename for Landis – is a “ritual sex abuser” and that “evidence of his predatory behavior” can easily be found."
However, I weighed it up and decided it wasn't like buying a Gary Glitter record, this was a team effort by a lot of people and the allegations came out after he was released.
Netflix are making a sequel and Landis has not been re-hired, so they've made steps to address this.
Landis also wrote Dirk Gently, which has also been axed by Netflix, for the same reason, it is believed.Last edited by QualityChimp; 26-01-2018, 10:53.
