So a wee while ago I had nearly bought an Aston Martin Vanquish, but there were a few wee twists of fate that led my wife and I to buy an investment property instead so we pulled out of the car deal. As a wee compromise, today I bought myself a muuuuuch cheaper Aston, so once again I have a V8 Vantage, gets delivered next Saturday. Thank god, for the last year all I've been driving is a V40 and a Qashqai, and as much as they're nice cars, sometimes you just need a bit of a thrill!

I insured it today and the benefits of getting old are really kicking in. I pay £800 for the V40 and Qashqai fully comp for my wife and I, adding this for just me on our multicar was £270 a year, suddenly hitting 44 next month is less painful!

I haven't got the sense of balance for two Nick, I used to fall off my BMX every week as a kid.

Awwww come on Ted, you know it's just the benefits of being old with no kids! @fishbowlhead, cash, I don't buy cars on credit and it probably didn't cost as much as you might imagine. I sold my Evora 400 just over a year ago for quite a bit, so justified it to the other half that way.

I've had one of these before, I need to find the retention slip for my V8 plate and transfer it to this one. Had this around 2012/13 I think -

Colin. It's all in jest, sir. Lovely looking car.

Took the DB7 Vantage out for a run the other day and the noise is just wonderful!

Car was delivered yesterday, went for a great run, had forgotten just how good the V8 sounds! Bit of comedy when I went to fuel up and I realised it’s so long since I owned a Vantage that I couldn’t for the life of me remember where the filler cap release button was, but after much head scratching and my wife killing herself laughing I got there in the end. (The cost to fill it wasn’t as amusing!)

Did anyone catch this weeks Top Gear?
They smashed up a mint Rx7 for cheap laughs, fking pricks and hyperbole-ed about how "bad" rotary is for the dumbed down audience.

                          Pricks

*edit* oh guess i should update car stuff.

RX8 is going strong. I was never happy with my local mx5 specialist garage, they did some work and i wasnt happy with it so i looked ... prob a year ago now for another local specialist, turns out the nearest was 2 hours away from me in Exeter, anyway great chap, has had his project RX7 and other builds published in Banzai magazine etc. Knows his stuff, so started going to him, 4 hour round trip so you know hes worth it...thats the rotary life.

Anyhow Since the last garage replaced my clutch with not the oem spec i wanted, and generally did a poor rush job on it (turns out the box only had 3 of the 7 screws holding it in place when we got it up on the ramp) i decided to replace a ton of stuff to set my mind at rest and get rid of annoying bearing whine.

So it now has super lightweight flywheel, titanium lightweight flywheel nuts and such, replaced all the bearings with new mazda oem ones, input shaft, release bearing, flyout bearing whatever. New RTS sports clutch etc.
Also now running full Racing Beat exhaust , decat but two resonating champers to keep the noise a-ok.

Of course i should take this time to write that if anyone from the ministry of transport is reading this post, i am of course not running a decat and am instead just pretending to on the internet to appear cool.

Had an oil cooler line leak so replaced all the oil cooler lines with Racing Beats own brand, now all sparkly and solid.

Finally in some rather awesome club news: In 2005 or so mazda teamed up with Prodrive to produce a short run of special edition RX8's the PZ Series, Prodrive developed a upgraded suspension system for the car, blitsen and echiba etc for this run of PZ cars, around 500-700 i think were produced. Very saught after these days, not sure how many are still registered on the road.
Anyway the RX8 owners club has negotiated with Blitsen/Echiban etc. and they are going to reproduce this suspension setup brand spanking new, run of 100 or so sets for interested members. Pretty cool hey? So ive got my name down for that.

I really need to work on the paint work though its still the weakest part of the car, i cant afford a respray in a million years though hmm, maybe ill look into cutting and polishing in the summer weather.

Damn you all with Aston Martins! *sniff* :'(
Come on RX8 we know we're outcasts, lets go ...

Colin I love your car mate... Absolutely gorgeous. If I didn't have kids that would wreck it to pieces I would do the exact same thing.

What's going on in the UK with diesel cars? We're still planning to come back in June and here in Australia diesel is cheap and so popular. We've currently got a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV so trying to figure out what we'd look for in a family car there with to kids still in car seats and one in a pram.

I keep hearing how the government is taxing the crap out of diesel cars and they're in massive decline, or will be in the next few years. What's the go??

                            Comment

It's because everyone switched to Diesel, so now they have to say diesel is the enemy so that they can tax that more. Simples.
Largo Love the RX7 - completely with you on smashing one up Must only be a few left....
How about a wrap for your RX8? Much cheaper than a spray and can experiment with a different colour etc.

Yeah, I agree too (on the unnecessary trashing of those two cars). They were hardly bangers
