    Rock Band Blitz xbla review

Grabbed this today to fill my sick day off.

I've been looking forward to it for a while now, as it looked like they had gone back to the finger blistering antics of Amplitude and I'm pleased to say they have.

It's not quite the same, you don't have the little segments that keep the track playing, all nodes are available at all times. Score is the name of the game here, much like 5 starring a track on rockband or Guitar Hero or even just like unlocking the next level on Amplitude.

There is no progression or story as such, everything is available from the off including any Rock Band songs you may of downloaded in the past. I've enjoyed a little bit of GlaDOS already.

Much like Ampltude and Rock Band you also carry a selectable power up that you can activate at any point once you've collected enough energy. There is a straightforward score doubler ala Star Power or there is a 'band mate' that takes over playing a particular track.

If you aren't familiar with Amplitude or Frequency, Rock Band Blitz may appear a little different, you actually play all instruments and vocals, by hitting the appropriate notes using the pad (LB and RB are my preferred controls) you switch between tracks with the analog or d-pad.

There are some other changes to the scoring system which mean that like score attacking in those other games, there is an element of strategy and being familiar with segments in a song in order to squeeze the most points from it.

Really don't understand why this isn't on Vita on SEN. It's perfect for that, surely?

It's intended to be used along side Rock Band downloaded music. Maybe the infrastructure isn't in place to let that happen.

Very average so far for me, I love all things Rock Band and Frequency, Amplitude and Dance Central but something feels amiss with this it just does not feel right. I am hoping it clicks but if not I'm guessing I just picked up 25 RB3 tracks for £9

I really hate that you have to spend coins for the power ups. Also if you restart a song (which I like to do if I mess up a few notes near the start) you have to spend money on the powerups again!

Yeah, that's pretty rubbish. I'm guessing that's the Not free2play shit sneaking in. Is there an option to buy coins?

Nope, other than that you get double coins for new songs thus encouraging you to buy more tracks.

Using the Facebook integration and beating some goals was the only way for me to build up a sufficient coins. Why you can't just do the goals via your console friends list is beyond me...

I'm guessing the autolog system is much like SsX and the major money is to be had from challenges.

"You will not be able to access power-ups while offline"

    WTF!?

What the hell power ups only in online mode. Grr
