It's been a odd month for shelling out on games. I've been looking forward to Gran Turismo 5 & Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, but had a ?100 credit note at Game so I picked those up for nothing.

I also finally gave in and brought a dedicated wheel set up but wanting to make it liveable, I shelled out for a Wheel Stand Pro. That bumped up my spending, but with the big hitters already out for Christmas, and most releases completed, that should be the last major check in for the year. Half of me thinks I should try and update this, the other half says it's a lot of effort to put in only serving to scare/shock/depress myself. I would like to think this half of the year is not going to top the ?1,750 in the first half, but still

I stopped immediately updating mid September as I went on a binge. Kept a mental record as there has been a common trend throughout the year and it will be interesting analysing it once the year has ended.
I don't expect to pick anything else up this year apart from more cheaps as companies get rid of stock before the new VAT rate comes in.

Indeed, are we going to tally up the results officially? It?s been a pain to keep genuine records of my spending but it was worth it, I hope this exercise has changed my spending habbits!

Well I've tracked every single purchase throughout the year, which I've never done before, and came up with some horrifying conclusions.

Whereas in the past I collected games, I'm now so ruthless about owning as little as possible (But have not been able to resist buying a console for one game) that I've brought but then sold so many games this year. Buying a DSi for Zelda, and then a Wii for Galaxy 2, was my undoing. I've now re-brought a PS3 for GT5, but think I've made the right decision and for the right console.

As this is all about coming clean, the simple facts are that if I had only spent money on the games and console I currently own, I would have only spent ?670.54. Instead, I've spent near 2 thousand pounds on games and hardware that I've sold, part exchanged or regretted buying.

I don't think I'm going to keep track of my expenses again as it was difficult keeping a record on them all and I now only have one console, but it was worthwhile doing throughout the year. I can't keep buying a console for one game and go back on it a month or two later. Lesson learned, I hope!
