So go ahead and dig deep everyone.
There are 3 charities to choose from.
- WPF Therapy - NOW CLOSED - PLEASE USE OTHER 2 OPTIONS. Affordable counselling or psychotherapy for people who cannot find suitable NHS provision (proposed by me)
- British Stammering Association - Speech therapy and support for kids and adults that stammer (proposed by a forum member)
- MacMillan - Cancer care and support (proposed by a forum member)
Anyone donating to any of the 3 charities via the links below can get a mention in the charity shout thread: you must include a message via the donation tool, including your forum name in the message.
When you donate £25 or more to any of the charities (and include your forum name in the donation tool message), you will be given a specific charity funky username colour and the abililty to choose a short text/link signature.
Finally, when you donate £100 or more, you can request a spot on the homepage and forum landing page with a link to the webpage of your choice (assuming it abides by forum rules). Links will be ordered by donation size (not shown). The links should remain till Q4 2012, but may be removed at any time at my discretion etc. etc. The incentives will be actioned manually (no automation).
On April 22nd 2012, I ran the Virgin London Marathon for WPF Therapy.
I've never raced more than 6 miles before, so 26 was scaring me!
After 18 weeks of gruelling training, I did a great first half, but my thighs seized up and I had to hobble the remaining 11 miles. Still finished in 4:11:08 though (an hour slower than target). From forumites and other people I know, we raised ~£1500 which was fantastic.
About the 2012 charities:
WPF Therapy seeks to provide affordable counselling or psychotherapy for people who cannot find suitable NHS provision, and who cannot afford private therapy. The charity provides a wide range of counselling and psychotherapy including CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) on a sliding scale depending on income as well as a wide range of accredited training programmes
British Stammering Association provides support to all whose lives are affected by stammering. We work to prevent stammering through early intervention, provide the optimum support for pupils who stammer and offer, through our helpline and website, information and a listening ear to adults and parents of stammering children.
