SCPH-10000 problems

I've bought a SCPH-10000 with the swap mod. I've tried RR 5 and Tekken Tag and they both cut out when into the game. I've not got a memory card yet. Do I need to save utility files onto the memory card?

I've changed the power lead and the problem has gone. Simple really.
