ps2 dvd not working!

Just bought a ps2 on wednesday with a messiah chip in and in won't play dvd's.For some probably obvious reason. Can any one help me?

If it's a Messiah 1 - insert disc and double tap reset quickly.

Messiah 2 - Insert the disc and hold reset to go to standby state. Then hold down reset till the eject light comes on.
