.
It is your cat, right?
Indeed. Poppy. I'll have had her 4 years tomorrow and the rescue centre say she was 10 when I got her. She still plays like a kitten though. Shes made recent events easier to deal with by being there for a cuddle when I need it.

Bloody Oscar. We gave him a collar with a bell on it to try and curb his killing machine tendencies, save a bit of the local wildlife population, but it just seems to have spurred him on to show nothing can stop him.
Lol.
A mate of mine had a cat. They put a bell on his collar too to stop him killing, but eventually he worked out that if he rolled around in the mud he could fill it with dirt to stop it making a noise, allowing him to carry on killing! Clever little bugger!!
I feel bad now as my reaction was always to tell him off. :(
Cats are domesticated wild animals. They're always gonna have that wild part left inside & will hunt. Not your fault & not the cats fault either mate.

Kyuui, my first cat. She lives with my ex now :(

Bug, my second. I chose to keep her over Kyuui as Bug is more used to me than she is my ex.
I love both of them just as much and not a day goes by when I don't miss Kyuui. They had to be separated as Kyuui (now 5) used to attack Bug (now 1 3/4).

I know how you feel about being spearated from 1 of them. Me & my ex had 2 tuxedos & I loved both of them to bits. It killed me having to leave them behind, & I still miss them every day

I haven't had cats since I was a kid, turned allergic in my teens which might possibly be the worst thing to ever have happened to me :(
However, I am making the most of Japan's enormous stray cat problem, and have befriended a couple of local moggies. One of them comes running out to greet me after dark if I pop out to the convenience store - she usually appears from underneath a parked car somewhere and starts walking beside me, if I don't stop she will run full speed to get ahead and then roll onto her back as I approach. It never fails, I can't resist stopping to rub her tummy. She's not mangy, I think someone else round here is feeding her (I never do). She's usually just grubby, which I think comes from rolling in the dirt for strange men.
Another one was a little kitten that I spied raiding rubbish bins a few months ago when it really was a tiny little thing. Saw him/her a few times since then and she always looked ready to bolt, so I moved on. A couple of weeks ago it had the courage to come closer, turned out to be one of the friendliest cats I've ever met! I think it's been run out of the neighbourhood since then though, it was only a young 'un and there are a lot of meaner bigger cats claiming the territory round here. So cute though, really wanted to take it home :(

Oscar doing his thing: I reckon he thinks he's the Cat of the Baskervilles. I should douse him in fluorescent paint so he can give the local rodents and birds an even bigger scare.

Our cat Shadow died suddenly this evening, we're totally devastated, it came completely out of nowhere.
One moment he was fine, his usual self, then just after dinner my brother went into the kitchen and found him lying on the floor panting, making wheezing noises, drool coming out of his mouth. He would try and walk a few paces but then he'd lay back down again, like it was too much effort.
We got him straight into the carry case and set off for the vet but he died in the car before we even got there. The vet said it's pretty much impossible to tell what happened; could have been a heart attack because of a defect, a few possibilities but we'll never know.
He was only seven years old :( He's never been ill before. The shocking thing is the speed, the fact we had no warning. From one hour to the next he went from being completely fine to being gone. He would often sleep on my bed, come in the home office and sit on the corner of the desk, he was the friendliest of all our cats. Gonna miss him like mad.
Give all your cats a big hug cos you never know what might happen in this life.

That's a bit strange. Could he have possibly eaten something he shouldn't?Possibly, we did catch him eating some polystyrene a few years ago so you never know what rubbish he might have eaten! Vet seemed to think that a random heart defect might have been the cause, but sadly we'll never know.

I'm amazed how big Obi has gotten now, he is a year old in Oct/Nov and has reached full size already lol. He looks so young in that pic but that wasn't long ago at all.
The kittens are really that small still as that was taken this week. Very hard to get a picture of Bubble as he is always on the move haha.

Poppy is due her annual MOT on Tuesday.
Being a long haired cat and an older lady she has some trouble washing her back legs and gets horribly matted in the summer. I've tried for years to brush her but she only tollerates about 5 minutes before she snaps!
The vet has to use anaesthisia to get the job done. It'll be 50/50 when I get to the vet at the end of the dy to find out whether she's been brushed out or shaved. If it's the latter I'll post pics as it's funny beyond belief!!

Wow, 19. And I consider Smudge ancient at 14!
We had a pretty big scare over the weekend. Every now and then during the summer Oscar or Star will set off outside early in the morning and not turn up again until late that night. Neither of them have ever been gone longer than that, always back the same day.
Well, Oscar set off on Friday morning and come Friday evening he was still nowhere to be seen. No panic yet, he'll probably turn up on Saturday, he's just off having fun for a bit longer than previously. Saturday morning comes, no Oscar, afternoon, no Oscar, I get back from Tottenham, no Oscar, and now we're worried. We're convinced something must have happened to him and are assuming the worst. This feeling deepens as the whole of Sunday passes and still no Oscar.
I'm asleep on Monday morning, just before 4AM, something jumps onto my bed and wakes me up... "Eva Mendes, is that you?" I wonder in my hazy state... but no, it's Oscar! Sitting on the end of my bed, no injuries, still got his collar on, just like he'd been nowhere! 72 hours or so since he vanished. PHEW!
Our best guess is that he may have been trapped somewhere, possibly exploring a garage or shed down the street and he got locked in by accident. We've been keeping a track of his weight since the start of the year as he'd got a bit podgy. The last few times we've weighed him he was 5.5KG, 5.6KG, then 5.5KG again. Checked him this morning and he was 5.1KG, so it seems like he's probably been without food for a while. We've fed him a couple of times since he's been back and he seems fine.
It's an adventure owning a cat! Smudge isn't happy though, now that she's got to share her sleeping spot :)

My kitten Obi got caught out the other day as he needed a toilet visit and was stuck indoors. Being the good boy he is he did his poop in the bath, may sound gross to some people but it's actually very handy as a bath is so much easier to clean than a carpet.
So close to the toilet itself though....I wonder if he can learn to use it?

Had to take Obi to the vets last night as he was dribbling a lot. I know, it sounds very odd lol. He had been asleep on a T-shirt and it was soaked right through.
Anyhoo, the vet checked him over and whilst there I remembered he had his flea treatment the night before and it turns out it was an allergic reaction to that particular brand. Frontline he has been fine with all year but this was Frontline Combo which makes all the difference as there is another chemical in there which cats can be allergic to so worth noting that down all you cat owners!

About 5 yrs ago a cat from next door used to visit us (mainly because the neighbours from next door used to live in our house & they kept shutting him out).
1 day he came thru the catflap & settled down on our couch, as usual. Then during the night we heard this banging noise by the wardrobe. Turned the light on & found the cat was banging his head against the wardrobe fitting, & was foaming at the mouth.
We phoned the vets & took him down (it was about 3am) to be checked over. I noticed a huge clear greasy patch on the top of his spine, so I mentioned it to the vet. They said they'd check it & keep him in overnight.
Turned out that the cats owners had put a dogs dose of Bob Martin Spot On (which is not a medically recommended product) on him & didnt even put it in the right place so he managed to get to it while cleaning himself & was nearly poisoned.
The cat recovered fine after a few days & we let the neighbours know, who said they'd pay all the vets costs, but we said we'd go halvers with them over the cost. They never paid us a penny. No wonder the cat wanted to stay with us. They didnt give a shit about him. Chav c*nts!!

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a235/b0risbear/Cats.jpg
1,2 & 8 are from a local vets.
3 to 6 are cats I've bumped into on my night walks.
7 is a cat named Mona who lives in a Stained Glassworks & pops out of a little gap in the door when u call her.
9 to 11 are again cats I've seen out at night.
12 is a lovely if a little nervous/scatty cat called Chloe owned by a Chinese lady who lives a few doors away from my mum.
13 is Chloe again watching her 'enemy' above - another w&b cat from the area who Chloe is not keen on.
14 to 19 - MORE cats I've seen on my travels!
20/21 is Geoff - mine/my ex's cat. As you can see he's a southpaw when playing games just like me!!
22 is a stray cat who hangs around a mates house chomping/rubbing on the catgrass outside.
23 is Lily - mine/my ex's other cat. She's only got 1 eye but cute as a button.
24 Speaking of buttons, well err, this is Buttons my bro's cat :)
25 is Lottie my Bro's other cat
26 is my boy Amber, who sadly passed away last yr & who I still miss like hell to this very day. RIP my lad xxx.

That was a sad story about the neighbours cat :( Can't believe they put a dog treatment on a cat, how stupid is that? When I was at the vets the woman made sure I definitely put cat Frontline on Obi rather than a dog one.
When we first put the stuff on Obi when we first got him he managed to twist round and lick it (I guess they are more flexible that young) and he foamed at the mouth but it was only for a few minutes, no where near as bad as in that story!
Awesome pics of the cats too. Sorry to hear you lost Amber, he is actually the cutest one there.

I love all cats but got a real soft spot for black one's, so Obi is a stunner
Did Simba lose half his ear due to cancer? I ask because light haired cats (white, ginger) have paler skin & are more prone to sunburn on their nose & ears. Used to put this specially made sunscreen for cats on my Ambers ears & nose when he went out.

I have no idea how Simba lost that half an ear lol. Happened around when he was 7 I would guess, the ear went all puffed up and was hurting him every now and then so we took him to the vets as it didn't sort itself out where they drained it and he was fine ever since. Could may have been a bad bee sting or something?
I never knew about the sunburn thing! Only had ginger cats for 27 years now too...haha. Must be a pain putting the sun cream on every time as they do like to pop in and out as and when they please.
Weirdly with the cancer thing, both Simba and Rosco had a tumour in their belly in their final year. Neither cat had seen the other (one at Mums house and the other at Dads), both had different symptoms and happened within 6 months of each other.
I'll have to post up a video of Obi for you as he likes to play fetch with rolled up bags and it's super cute!
Kit - Rosco really was an amazing cat. Little bit wary around strangers as he was part feral (born on a farm) but he sure kept the bird and rodent numbers down around our close! If you check out his fur you can see where the sun had bleached it brown :p
He would also recognise my car and come to greet me outside and if I walked to the chip shop he would follow me :)
Kryss - Rusty was a beast. He was only 6 months old in that photo...I'm guessing he had a bit of breed in the mix there as his coat was so thick and he was muscled too.

Funny thing is, for the first week or so we had him as a kitten, we were worried that he was going to be a bit too shy and timid. Very nervous, hiding behind stuff, not much noise of movement needed to frighten him, etc., not like any of our other cats.
Yet he grows up into the toughest, roughest, baddest and boldest of the lot :)
Fader209
20-10-2011, 04:21 PM
He sounds like my old Rosco whereby they have a bit of the wild in them! He used to be jumpy and nervous yet he killed everything outside.
I once found a dead bat...
Must add that Oscar did pretty well to take down a squirrel lol they can be very vicious. When I was younger our cat Toffo (ginger again) got into a scrap with one and the thing managed to bite his chin, had to take him to the vets for jabs etc after that and he went into a depression and lost weight.
He got better after a while but I remember being worried for him :(

Oscar lost the nervousness completely after about a month. Now he's the only one of our cats who will come up and greet strangers, sits calm and still during loud noises, basically doesn't give a shit about anything! A complete reversal in character from his earliest days. He hasn't managed a bat kill yet though, but we do get them in our garden fairly often, so it's surely only a matter of time.
When he was still with us, Shadow had my favourite nervous quirk: he was scared of cans of fizzy drink. If someone came into the room with one, he'd sit up, alert and on edge. Put your finger near the ring-pull like you're about to open it and he'd let out a few little scared meows. Start pulling up on the ring-pull and he'd run off! It was utterly bizarre!

Scottish fold kitten? Should have called him Origami :D
I heard he was jumping around and stuff over the headset the other day, so cute :). It's all good fun for a bit until they grow a bit bigger and still decide to climb up your leg. Painful!
Those whiskers are huge too and the feet look quite big as well so maybe he will get to be a decent size.
Will be taking Bubble and Squeak to the vets soon I think for their "snip". I wonder if they do a 2-for-1 offer....
Will have to get some recent pictures of them as they are slowly becoming more individual - Bubble is always getting into trouble and has sharper features whereas Squeak LOVES his food and is much bigger and more likely to sleep and be lazy.

Fader209
04-11-2011, 06:39 PM
How old was he when you got him?
They shed their coat for Winter and then again for Summer so right now he is preparing for the cold weather, it's pretty clever. Some breeds obviously lose their fur differently so it might be worth checking up his particular breed and what to expect for other things too - like he might need grooming but I doubt that really.

Wow, that's actually quite a bit older than I was expecting but it does mean he looks the right size in those photos lol. Has he had the plums lobbed off yet? A cat can also explode in size after that operation, thankfully though the op isn't a bad price for males.

Getting de-bagged actually slows their growth & stunts it. Thats why all the stray males you see have big bull-like heads
Will be taking Bubble and Squeak to the vets soon I think for their "snip". I wonder if they do a 2-for-1 offer....
you mean a 4 for 2 offer - 4 bollocks

Cats really are amazing!! When I was younger I believed what everyone else thought of cats - that they were all independent, selfish & aloof, until in my teens I met a cat named Whisky. He was a beaut & totally different to what I'd seen in a cat. I could call him from the 2nd floor of my neighbours house & he'd come running all the way down the roof, onto the wall & to the floor to see me :). I remember spending at least an hr out there with him on a late summers night after a hard skate. It was a great way to end the day :). Whisky really changed the way I saw cats & opened my eyes to their different characters.
The more time you spend with Cats the more you see how each is so individual. Their characters be it good or bad, quirks, even the way they walk. I love em :).
I still miss the Cats from my past. I had 2 with my ex & they were total opposites. 1 was grumpy as hell & territorially aggressive to outsiders while the other was always on the go, really welcoming to ppl who came round & was like a permanent kitten in both attitude & looks. I miss them. They were like my kids.
I miss our parents cat Amber too. Not only was he an affectionate cat he was a true character. Such amazing memories of him knocking the window to get our attention to come inside, the constantly miaowing at my dad when he wouldnt let him on his lap but would have to give in in the end, & the determination & fire he had inside him to live after getting knocked down, breaking his jaw, losing all his teeth, breaking his ribs & losing a leg.
Merry Xmas Amber lad, wherever you are xxx

One of our boys went missing this weekend, was last seen on the Friday afternoon and we had searched all the roads, ditches and fields and found nothing. Put notes through all the doors asking people to check their garages and sheds but still nothing. That was until Sunday evening when we heard a meow coming from a neighbours garage...poor little guy was so happy to get out and was super hungry!
His brother is now acting quite strange around him, hissing and growling etc. I think maybe he liked being the "top cat" while he was gone and now the attention is shared again :p

Poppy had to go to the vet again last week. Passing blood again like she did back in December 2010. She's been off her food and not particularly cuddlesome recently.
Vet has given her antibiotics and after 4 days she seems to be back to her usual self. Lots of purring and cuddling and an appetite that would put most humans to shame.
She's 15 so I know she is an old lady - I'm just glad that, for now, I've got my baby back.

We got our first kitty together last month from Cats protection called Bonnie. 6months old and beautiful. Wife's other cat Ash gets on with her well. We lost ikkle Billy last year when I was having my bypass, just never came home one day. He took to me instantly when I met the wife and followed me everywhere and was really upset when I was gone. Just hope he found a new home. Will post pics of Bonnie when I'm on the PC :-)

Is it normal to be that size, or is he just really, really fat?
If the latter you might want to consider seeing if your vet can help to identify how old how is, if he's like 25 or something then it's probably quite cruel keeping him alive. Does he go to the vet regularly or do you struggle to get him into a car?

In truth Oscar actually loves the rain, our other cats stay inside but he usually goes out in it. He seems to catch even more creatures than normal when it rains, must cover up the sound of his movements better, stuff like that.
Last night I had to remove a rat (well, half of a rat...) from the hall, and within five minutes of me getting rid of it he'd deposited another one there in its place! At least the second one was intact.
Thankfully Smudge gave up hunting years ago (she gives chase to the occasional pigeon though) and Star hunts but doesn't seem to bring anything in the house. Oscar more than makes up for the other two though!

Oscar is such an awesome cat :D His facial expressions are so human it makes me laugh! I was going back through this thread the other day and saw the photo of him looking really put out on the fence, such a great pose.
I guess he must have a bit of the wild in his genes if he is good at hunting as his colour is terrible camouflage for any given environment lol.
I saw Obi legging it across the road on Monday with a bird in his mouth whilst the mother bird flew after him and divebombed from above. Looked funny as hell but I did feel sorry for the bird and tried to save it later (I was outside anyway burying the remains of another one...it was so gross).

I think he makes up for his lack of camouflage by just being a bit of a beast and a hard bastard :D
The funny thing is, when he meows it's really high pitched and barely any different from when he was a kitten. The tiniest, cutest, squeaky little voice yet he's a murderous killing machine.
Makes up for the voice with the look though.

Here are my two pedigree Raggies.
Samson: Bought by my girlfriend before we met. He used to be really timid until the day my brother died, at which point he came and sat on my lap and didn't leave my side for weeks. Apart from my family and girlfriend, he means more to me than any human.

Delilah: Sam's half sister. A month younger, but still tiny. Everyone who sees her, wants her as she literally is just a little ball of fluff. The unfortunate thing is that now she won't get down off her pedestal and just gives you a look of pure disgust if you interrupt whatever she's doing.

I still can't believe how lucky I am to have Sam, he's been there for me and always fancies a cuddle. The only thing is he does sometimes get a bit jealous. On many occasions he's decided to plonk himself between me and the other half when we go to bed! But no matter what, even after he pissed in my slipper and pooped all over the carpet, I wouldn't change him for anything.

Sam looks to be an awesome cat and I'm sorry to hear about your brother dude. There is something caring that some cats have that I find fascinating like in your case of Sam being there for you. When I was a baby in my pram our cat Toffo would sit beside me and literally guard me from anyone he didn't know by hissing at them.

Friends I had in Japan had a 16 year old male who was 12kg and about the size of a medium dog. That was a WHOLE lot of cat. And they called him Chibi!
My grandparents runt siamese lived for 18 years. That was the smartest, most comical cat i've ever known too.
His name was flaxi, or "mac"...but my grandfather used to call him "breakaway province of katanga" because he was so much trouble. LOL!
Never forget when they bought mac a tower for scratching, and he took one look at it before casually going back to tearing the fairly new carpet to shreds....he used to wind my grandfather up so much it was hilarious, he'd be chased out by my grandfather teatowel in hand...but it was so funny when he came back 10 mins later, and he'd stare at my grandfather for a moment while he was reading his paper, and then just jumped up for a cuddle. That cat had him literally wrapped around his finger. He knew exactly how to wind my grandfather up, but also knew exactly when to reemerge for a cuddle.
Then when youd be eating he would keep touching your leg with a paw, and if you kept ignoring him, he'd eventually stick you with a single claw lmao.
So many little things that thinking back were absolute comedy gold.
My grandfather was quite a cold, unemotional man(well plenty of volatile emotions) but he cried like a baby when mac died....never saw him shed a tear before, or after that up until his own death.
I dont have a picture unfortunately, but thats one man/cat story that really was amazing to watch.

They're on dry food, various different flavours of Gocat Complete, I believe :) We did try the pouches of wet food years ago but with three (and four) cats it was just way too expensive, it cost a fortune.
Of course, Oscar supplements his food with plenty of rats, mice, birds, frogs, and god knows what else! He actually got fairly overweight for a little while so we had to reduce the food we gave him and thankfully he's back where he should be now. We always give him less whenever we see him catch something too, which is working, he's sticking to a nice healthy weight.

He's doing pretty well actually, I was worried that as he had been out for so long that he would have gone a bit wild but he was super happy to be home. Some people had seen our note left in the shop about him being missing and they had been feeding a small stray cat whilst on holiday here about a mile away, so they phoned us and brought him round :)
You can see he has lost a bit of weight in these photos from living rough for 4 weeks and he did have one eye that had turned a darker colour. The eye went back to normal overnight which is a good sign and the vet gave him a clean bill of health today - I'm guessing the eye thing was from being over-tired & trauma.
Going to take a while for Squeak to accept him back as he isn't happy with him at the moment!

That's great news! Oscar went missing for three days last summer and that was bad enough, can't imagine one of ours cats being gone for a month.
Maybe it's a trait of ginger cats? I think a sample size of two is good enough to draw that conclusion :)

About time I got my cat out for the lads.
This is Bear. He's about 8 months old now and he's a blue mitted ragdoll. Absolutely love the little bugger and out of all the cat I've had growing up he is the most placid and playful, which is a trait of the breed to be fair. If you've got kids or are looking for a really good house cat I highly reccomend the breed. As I said I've had numerous cats growing up but this breed has floored me as they're quite different from the norm.
My wife gets to take him to work with her as she works for a small company that makes custom-made shoes and glasses so he's already had a pair of glasses named after him and got the entire office suckered in. To me he's my hand warmer for those long Xbox sessions as he tends to sit on my forearms to sleep.

Poppy is at the vet this evening. She's started passing blood when having a wee. :(
Hoping it's just a repeat of the infection she had a while ago but she is an.old last so I am really quite scared!

Teddy - How did Poppy get on at the vets? I saw you were trying to raise money selling stuff earlier so hope you managed to get enough together for the relevant tests. Annoyingly with older cats they do tend to need the expensive tests, we had the same with old Rosco at one point (he had fallen oddly and couldn't walk on his back legs) and we couldn't afford it...turns out he didn't need them anyway and healed perfectly so it would have been a waste of money.
nonny - Bear is a beast! Looks a lot older than 8 months, is that a trait of ragdolls?

Poppy is fine. :)
Being an elderly long haired tortie she doesn't tend to groom as much as she should so she gets matted.
As she doesn't really like being brushed too much she was sedated and then shaved from her neck down to her tail. Her paws are still furry but her whole body is bald!
She had blood tests and urine tests. The results came back okay. Slightly raised glucose levels caused by stress. Her cystitis is back but she's had antibiotics to sort that.
£277.01!! Worth every penny to keep my baby happy.
It's really pricey looking after an older animal been through it myself years ago with a cat and a dog (its when an average vet trip starts becoming £100+ every time instead of regular checkups and when your vet is a speed dial in your phone, but they are part of the family so it's worth it no matter the cost). My cat was mental will have to fish out a picture he only loved my mum me and my dad he couldn't have given two shots about and was pretty obvious about it.. Git that he was :) class though

Raggies are the one of the largest breeds. An adult can expect to hit 20lb+.
Sam is only 13 months and bigger than most domestic cats.

My Sammy will only go to other people if they have food, otherwise he just sits with me.
Delilah makes me laugh though. If you stroke her, she goes from looking at you with a 'And WHAT do you think you're doing?' expression to the head back and 'Ooooooh, that's nice, now scratch a little to the left. No, MY LEFT you IDIOT!'.

Yep ragdolls get very big. Bear is around 5kgs at the moment whatever that converts to?
I think only Maine Coons get bigger? Either way he's pretty big at 8 months but I don't think he'll get too much bigger. His dad was about 7.5kgs.

Yeah, Maine Coon is the largest 'domestic' breed by far as they can reach big dog size and yes, the missus wants one!
Had a few problems with a couple of the other half's children and have temporarily moved into my folks spare room. Went over to pick up my bike today and Samson, well lets just say I've never seen him like that before. He wouldn't leave me alone. Every time I picked him up he'd put his front legs out as if to hug me, his heartbeat was so fast and loud, his purring sounded like a jet taking off... I guess he thought I'd gone for good.
The look on his face when I left was almost unbearable. I'd bring him here with me but I couldn't split him and his sister up.

Edit: Hmm, strange, when I upload that photo to Photobucket it looks much less saturated and colourful that it should. Anyone have any idea why that'd happen?
Edit edit: Ah, something to do with the colour space. Never had that happen before, weird!

Regarding the tough times, I think cats seem to know. I went through an extremely tough time in 2010 (one I'm still recovering from) and my cat seemed to know exactly when to hurl attention my way.

This is one of the last pictures I took of her at the vets.
I was allowed to hold her as the vet put her under and she went quietly and was then peaceful. The vet let me spend a long time with her afterwards to say goodbye.
She was weighed in Feb 2012 and was 4.6kgs. Today she was 2.16kgs. The vet said she could feel no tumors but weight loss that fast, short of spending upwards of £1000 on a CAT scan at a specialist, was most likely a brain tumor.
The option was there to give her steroid jabs but the odds are that they would just delay the inevitable and only slightly.
She's was so unstable on her feet that I was worried about coming home from work and finding that she'd fallen down the stairs and broken her spine or something.

And because Greece is full of strays, I found 2 little stray kitties on my garden after 2 weeks and brought them in

Picked Poppy up from the vet's today and have picked a nice sunny spot in the garden for her to sleep.
We've put a lantern in place to mark where she is with a scented candle lit too.
I feel a little calmer now I've taken her back; I know where she is now.
Rest in peace, Poppy.

As hard as it is, you made the right call 100%. I'd like to think I would do the same but some people can be selfish and put themselves before the cat or dogs quality of life.

There isn't a particular 1 thing that i love about them. I think its the whole package that makes a cat. Some ppl i know that have very little or no experience of cats have very bad views of them, but until you have a cat yourself or spend a lot of time around cats then you don't see how amazing they are in so many ways.
I remember the 1st cat that opened my eyes as to how amazing cats are. His name was Whisky & I was in my mid teens. You could call him down from his garden wall & he'd come running up to you for some strokes :). I'd spend about 30 mins to an hr out there with him during the summer evenings :).
He was the start of my love for cats which will never leave me.
When I walk to work there's a cat that sits in his upstairs window & as I pass he watches me every step of the way, as if I'm tresspassing on his manor, which makes me & brightens up another crappy day for me :).
Everytime i see a cat in the street i have to give them a stroke, if they allow me to of course :).

Cats are more friends than pets, they stay with you for the companionship (and the food).
I think the above is why I prefer cats over dogs.
With cats you have to earn their trust over time and if you treat said cat poorly it will run off. You treat a dog poorly and it will stay with it's owner.
Glad you all enjoy your cats!
I can't stand the things personally.
I don't think cats like tin men either to be fair. :D
